Everything has its own space, and a great deal of it too, creating a wide entertaining mix of highs and lows. What is entirely lacking from this album is the brass-section that was so prominent on 'Basal Ganglia'. However, this is not necessarily a short-coming in terms of songwriting, but rather of unimaginative instrumentation. This does not greatly diminish the enjoyment derived from listening to 'Polysemy' though. In any case, it is clear that the two of them have a bright future ahead, with Mestis, AAL, or any other project for that matter.

Reyes utilizes a heavily saturated guitar sound throughout much of the album. I'll polysemh on it. Support Distorted Sound and our digital magazine now! However, for the most part 'Polysemy' pulls this off effortlessly.

Mastermind Javier Reyes seems to be giving us a hint at what he's trying to achieve with this album. Reyes alternates between up-beat and dark motives in his tunes and manages to keep the experience compelling; not least by means of his virtuose and technically flawless playing. I guess i though it'd be more engaging for a reader to be told that this is a really beautiful album but elaborate more on the short-comings, so they know what to expect.

Make sure if you're doing a parenthetical aside that you surround it with commas. Combined with the sharp rattle of bass, the guitar tone is low, heavy, and intriguing.

Also, could you point out what exactly you found to be redundant, if you have a minute? Unexpected percussive elements, such as the cowbell on 'Eclipse', or the claves? Oh and oolysemy yeah, but I'm also a big fan of prog or experimental stuff.

Secondly, there has been a distinct shift in direction, though not too extreme as to alienate those already following the project. This makes for some incredibly charming musical ideas of the kind you wouldn't encounter on an AAL song, as those often feel infinitely more calculated.

And additionally, within the smaller scope of Reyes' musical niche it is important for him to set his music apart from similar musical act. In any case, it is clear that the two of them have a bright future ahead, with Mestis, AAL, or any other project for that matter.

For the most part this works out fine, especially considering that his guitar playing often emulates the more or less inaudible bass. Indeed, the tone itself greatly enhances the already brilliant production quality.

It did not attempt to be intimidatingly heavy, nor overtly complex. I'm sure you can find information about that in the polysejy.

Every time I've been listening to it since, I've found that I've become a little more enamoured with it. Beardog November 7th Comments. I totally agree with you about the guitar having almost a slap bass tone in some sections. These factors combined lead to a more metal, less jazzy or latin listening experience than on the EP 'Basal Ganglia'.

I googled it for you: On the track 'Paloma' Reyes misses an easy opportunity to shine as he chooses not to use a warmer, more welcoming sound that would complement his soft playing better. The magazine features a whole host of quality bands every month, as well as original features, reviews and more!

Despite the strong focus on guitars, there is hardly an abundance of variety in guitar tones.
